The reason for the importance of art as an aspect of Jewish tradition is the idea that Jewish ceremonies deserve to be enhanced and beautified in every way possible. An example of this is the practice of prayers being chanted, rather than just spoken, because music glorifies the words addressed to God. In my Jewish art, therefore, I try to do my part in carrying on this very special tradition of enhancing an already wonderful theme. Whether it is the naming of a new girl baby, the celebration of a special wedding anniversary, a bar or bat mitzvah, a confirmation, or a new home, I try to create art that not only emphasizes the traditional spiritual aspects of such life cycle events, but also adds another layer of simple human delight-in-living to their celebration.
