Because of the widely held belief that the second commandment prohibited Jews from artistic endeavors, it has long been assumed that Jewish art is virtually non-existent. In actuality, however, Jewish art has a long historical tradition. Archaeologists have found many early examples dating from 245 C.E., and in the Bible itself, there are not only descriptions of works of art, but the individual artists themselves are also mentioned.
